Assets

Assets can speed up game development by allowing you to focus on important parts of your game, and purchasing unimportant parts off-the-shelf.

No marketplace is intentionally excluded. These are in no particular order. The authors receive no compensation from your usage of these services.

Fab is Epic Game’s storefront and, in addition to a massive library and decent licensing, there are NSFW assets available. Assets here tend to be pricey, but sales are also common. Lots of 3D and realistic assets, and free assets rotate every other week.

Best for Unreal Engine. Some products also offer Unity assets or raw files that can be loaded into any engine. Most assets may be used outside of Unreal Engine, always check the licensing.

Unity Asset Store is the official Unity marketplace for assets. Most licenses allow usage in other game engines, though! Always check the licensing.

As of writing, everything in Godot’s official asset store is free and may be used with any engine, not just Godot. There tends to be Godot addons and some stylized assets here. Licenses vary, always read the license.

While not a game asset market, there are frequently massive game asset bundles at a fraction of retail price, for all sorts of game engines. Licenses vary, always check the license. Bundles rotate, so check every once in a while.

Leartes’ Cosmos sells large-scale environment packs and frequently has sales.

Mostly focused on Unreal Engine, but most assets may be used in other engines. Always check the license.

All AmbientCG assets are licensed as CC0, so you can do whatever you want with them. They have high-quality PBR textures for photorealistic rendering, Skyboxes, and 3D models. It is completely free.

All polyhaven assets are licensed as CC0, no usage restrictions. They have high quality 3d models, environments, and materials. These are geared towards rendering, not game development, so some assets may need work to have real-time performance. Most assets are completely free.

Be aware of potentially uneven licensing for non-animation media. Video games may qualify as repackaging under a different brand, which is against the terms. Furthermore, the terms may be contradictory, as it is licensed under Creative Commons Attribution 4.0, which stipulates absolutely no additional legal or technological restrictions, but then adds additional legal restrictions.
